About K-9 Enterprises

Shelley & Timbre NW3 Elite
Shelley Smith is the founder of K-9 Enterprises and a Certified Nose Work Instructor (CNWI) under K9 Nose Works and the National Association of Canine Scent Work (NACSW). She began her Nose Work training in 2006 in Long Beach, California, and has been involved in Fun Nose Work classes since their inception.

She currently teaches K9 Nose Work classes in the Portland, area. Shelley was trained by Ron Gaunt, Master Trainer, and Amy Herot, both of whom have extensive K9 detection backgrounds, from which this dog sport was developed. Her own two Golden Retrievers, Katie and Timbre, have trained through all odors; and Katie participated in the very first Nose Work competition in California. Katie passed away in 2013 at 13 1/2 (a few months after titling in NW3), but her presence is strongly felt, so I will say for now that I still have two Golden Retrievers, in honor of her memory (:

She has facilitated numerous seminars in the Portland area over the last couple of years with Mr. Gaunt. Shelley hosted an inaugural Mock Trial in Vancouver in November 2010 and the first sanctioned Nose Work Trial for the Pacific Northwest region in March 2011, and the first NW2 trial in Oregon in October 2011 and NW3 Trial in 2012 and the trials continue, to date.

Shelley moved to Oregon in August 2008 because of her love of the area and the culture. She was the first to introduce this dog sport to Oregon and loves to share the techniques, knowledge and fun with all of the fabulous dog teams here.

She also has trained and/or competed in both the K9 and Equestrian fields in agility, obedience, studio training, therapy work, K9 crisis response, freestyling and hunter jumping.

"I love the fun Nose Work sport because all dogs can do it. We learn to understand and observe our dogs in this sport, through doing what they like to do. We learn to observe and listen to communication coming from them, through their eyes and body movement. We bring happiness to their spirit, as they do something that they love to do, while we encourage their natural instincts. I believe that this sport will add a very special bond between you and your dog."
